The NBA Board of Governors is set to approve the 3-2-1 system, but it may be replaced by a draft credit system as early as the 2030 draft. This new system, favored by several team executives, would eliminate the direct link between a team’s regular-season record and draft position, allowing franchises to receive equal draft credits to bid on selections. The proposed mechanism resembles fantasy football’s waiver wire budgets, enabling teams to trade portions of their credits. Amin Elhassan previously suggested a similar concept in 2015.
