The Atlanta Falcons have signed quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a veteran minimum contract as Michael Penix Jr. recovers from a partially torn ACL. While an open competition was initially anticipated between the two once Penix is healthy, reports suggest that Tagovailoa is favored to start this offseason, limiting Penix’s chances unless Tagovailoa is injured. Penix, who transferred from Indiana to Washington and was drafted eighth overall in 2024, is in the second year of a four-year contract. He played nine games in 2025, completing 60.1% of his passes for 1,982 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions.
