MLB contract option decisions: Braves drop Travis d’Arnaud, keep Marcell Ozuna, Sean Manaea opts out of Mets

MLB’s offseason begins on November 4th, marking the start of free agency and the deadline for qualifying offers and contract option decisions. Notable option decisions include Gerrit Cole opting out with the Yankees, Blake Snell with the Giants, and Cody Bellinger staying with the Cubs. Other decisions include veteran catcher d’Arnaud hitting the market, Coulombe entering free agency after impressive seasons with the Orioles, and Eovaldi testing the market after declining his player option. Lynn declined a club option with the Cardinals, Lowe’s club option was picked up by Tampa Bay making him a trade candidate, and Manaea opted out for a multi-year contract. Maton declined a club option with the Mets. The D-backs exercised a $22.5 million player option for Montgomery, despite owner Ken Kendrick calling it a “horrible decision.” Ozuna’s $16 million option was picked up by the Braves, while Ray declined to opt out of his $50 million contract with the Mariners. Suárez had his $15 million club option picked up by the D-backs after a strong finish to the season. The Brewers declined Williams’ $10.5 million option, making him a trade candidate with one year of arbitration left.
