The Chicago Cubs announced that right-hander Cade Horton will miss 15 to 16 months after undergoing season-ending surgery on his pitching elbow, marking his second reconstructive procedure following Tommy John surgery in 2021. Manager Craig Counsell noted that reliever Daniel Palencia will also be sidelined for a few weeks due to a strained left oblique. Horton, who had a strong season last year with an 11-4 record and a 2.67 ERA, experienced a drop in velocity before exiting a game on April 3. Palencia has yet to allow a run in five appearances this season, with one save and a 1-0 record.
