The Mets designated right-handed pitcher Luis Garcia for assignment on Sunday due to his poor performance, allowing six runs in six appearances with a 7.11 ERA. In his place, the team called up Joey Gerber, a 28-year-old right-hander acquired from the Rays last November. Gerber has a career 3.60 ERA in the majors and a 3.53 ERA in six minor league seasons. This move follows another bullpen change where Craig Kimbrel was called up and Richard Lovelady was DFA-ed.
