The Justice Department has initiated an investigation into the NFL regarding potentially excessive subscription fees for football fans. This inquiry follows a letter from U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, questioning whether the NFL’s streaming package fees contravene the Sports Broadcasting Act. While the NFL claims that over 87% of its games are still available for free on broadcast TV, fans reportedly spent nearly $1,000 last season on subscriptions. The FCC is also exploring how changes in viewing habits affect consumer interests in today’s fragmented media landscape.
