Mets pitcher Clay Holmes made an impressive World Baseball Classic debut, throwing three scoreless innings and striking out six batters in Team USA’s 9-1 victory over Great Britain. Coming in relief for Tarik Skubal, Holmes notably struck out five consecutive hitters. Team USA rallied after a slow start, scoring five runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth. Following Holmes, Yankees closer David Bednar also contributed with a scoreless seventh inning.
