The NFL’s Competition Committee did not address a potential replacement for the onside kick during their recent meeting at the Scouting Combine, as reported by Mark Maske. The onside kick has seen diminishing success rates, particularly since the NFL banned running starts in 2018, leading to discussions about alternatives like a fourth-and-13 play. Rich McKay, co-chairman of the Committee, acknowledged the need for change but highlighted the challenge of securing 24 owner votes for any rule modification. Currently, the onside kick recovery issue remains a significant concern within the league.
