U.S. freeskier Nick Goepper was discharged from the hospital with a knee sprain and a shin bruise after a frightening fall during the halfpipe finals at the Winter Olympics, where he attempted a high-risk trick to secure gold. Despite his efforts, he finished fourth after Canada’s Brendan Mackay outperformed him. Goepper, a two-time Olympic silver medalist, came out of retirement to compete in the halfpipe. Other freeskier injuries included New Zealand’s Finley Melville Ives, who was briefly unconscious, and Canadian Cassie Sharpe, who also suffered a fall but was not seriously hurt.
