Griffin Canning has signed a deal with the San Diego Padres, moving on from the New York Mets as he recovers from a ruptured left Achilles tendon. The 29-year-old right-handed pitcher is expected to bolster San Diego’s starting rotation, although the contract details are not yet disclosed. Alongside Canning, the Padres also acquired starting pitcher Germán Márquez and veteran outfielder Nick Castellanos. Canning had a promising season in 2025 with a 3.77 ERA before his injury, and he may return around Opening Day.
