Los Angeles Dodgers’ new closer Edwin Díaz, who signed a three-year, $69 million contract in December, will represent Puerto Rico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic (WBC) in March. Díaz, a top reliever with a 2.82 ERA and 253 saves over his nine-year career, missed the entire 2023 MLB season due to a knee injury sustained during the 2023 WBC. Meanwhile, teammate Shohei Ohtani opted not to pitch in the WBC, focusing on the MLB season. Other Dodgers players have also withdrawn from the tournament due to various concerns, including insurance issues.
