Cincinnati Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall revealed that All-Star shortstop Elly De La Cruz declined a contract extension last spring that would have made him the highest-paid player in the franchise’s history, surpassing Joey Votto’s 10-year, $225 million deal. De La Cruz, who is not arbitration-eligible until 2027, recorded impressive stats last season, including 22 homers and 37 stolen bases, but regressed in 2025 while still ranking highly in bat speed and sprint speed.
