Following the Bo Bichette signing, the Mets claimed infielder Tsung-Che Cheng off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays. Cheng, 24, made his MLB debut in 2025 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he had seven at-bats without a hit, and spent last season primarily in Triple-A, posting a .209 batting average. A versatile infielder, he has played shortstop, second base, and third base, and has accumulated 35 home runs in 507 minor league games. Cheng was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh before being claimed by the Rays and then DFA’d shortly after.
