The Detroit Red Wings have recalled defenseman Erik Gustafsson from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins to bolster their defensive depth. Gustafsson, 33, is in the final year of a two-year, $4MM contract but has struggled in the NHL, not making the opening night roster. Despite this, he has excelled in the AHL, leading Griffins defensemen with 20 points in 22 games. Reports suggest he may explore options in the SHL next year due to limited NHL opportunities.
