David Greenwood, a legendary high school basketball player from Southern California, will have his jersey retired at Verbum Dei on Friday, following his death from cancer at age 68 on June 8, 2022. Greenwood was an All-American at UCLA, the No. 2 pick in the 1979 NBA draft, and played 12 seasons in the NBA, winning a championship with the Detroit Pistons. He also coached Verbum Dei to state championships in 1998 and 1999. The retirement ceremony will take place during halftime of the game against Gardena Serra.
