Don Mattingly, the 1985 AL MVP and former manager, has decided to extend his baseball career for one more season as a bench coach for the Philadelphia Phillies, influenced by his 11-year-old son, Louis. After serving as Toronto’s bench coach, Mattingly aims to help the Phillies, who have reached the playoffs for four consecutive seasons, pursue their first championship since 2008. Despite his storied past, including a long career with the Yankees, Mattingly has no desire to manage again. He hopes to achieve his long-sought World Series ring alongside his son and the team’s leadership.
