The United States’ gold medal streak at the World Junior Championship ended when Finland defeated them 4-3 in the quarterfinals. Arttu Valila scored the overtime winner after a dramatic finish in which Finland surged ahead with two quick goals, only for Ryker Lee to equalize for the U.S. with 1:33 left in regulation. The U.S. came into the tournament as back-to-back champions and had previously won against Finland in the gold medal game last year.
