Philip Rivers demonstrated he can still play after unretiring, throwing a touchdown on the Colts’ first possession against the 49ers. He completed 5-of-7 passes for 73 yards, culminating in a 20-yard touchdown pass to Alec Pierce, giving the Colts a 7-0 lead. In his prior game against the Seahawks, Rivers threw for 120 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Colts also faced an injury as center Tanor Bortolini left for a concussion check early in the game.
