The NBA and FIBA announced plans to advance a new pan-European men’s basketball league, engaging potential teams and ownerships starting in January. The league, expected to consist of 12-16 teams, aims to include established clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich, while providing merit-based pathways for other teams through existing European tournaments. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver highlighted positive interest from various stakeholders and emphasized the need for a formal salary structure and arena infrastructure. The targeted launch for the NBA Europe league is fall 2027.
