The Chicago White Sox have signed Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami to a two-year, $34-million contract, with a total cost of $40.575 million including a posting fee. The 25-year-old infielder, who set an NPB record with 56 homers in 2022, had a .286/.392/.659 batting line with 24 home runs in 69 games last season. Murakami joins a struggling White Sox team that has lost over 100 games in three consecutive seasons, potentially playing first base or DH alongside Miguel Vargas. Over his eight-season NPB career, he has a .270/.394/.557 slash line, 246 home runs, and 647 RBIs.
