The Chicago Fire of the MLS plans to build a $650 million stadium along the Chicago River, fully financed by team owner Joe Mansuetto, with an anticipated opening in 2028. This development, announced through full-page ads in the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times, will be part of The 78, a 62-acre mixed-use project. The move comes amid challenges faced by the NFL’s Bears in securing public funding for their own stadium, highlighting a trend where sports franchises are increasingly expected to finance their own facilities.
