Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Steelers are negotiating a long-term contract with OLB T.J. Watt. While both parties hope to finalize an agreement before the regular season begins, there are significant hurdles, particularly regarding Watt’s salary expectations compared to recent contracts signed by Myles Garrett and Nick Bosa. Currently entering the final year of his deal, Watt is set to earn a base salary of $21.05 million, but he seeks a contract that narrows the gap with Garrett’s $40 million average annual value.
