Former MLB player Darin Ruf has filed a lawsuit against the Cincinnati Reds, alleging negligence after he suffered injuries from colliding with a tarp roller during a game in June 2023. Ruf claims the tarp roller was dangerously obscured by an advertisement, lacked protective features, and that the Reds’ grounds crew failed to maintain safe conditions. The Reds may argue defenses related to collective bargaining agreements and the assumption of risk, as well as their operational responsibilities for Great American Ball Park, a publicly owned venue in Hamilton County, Ohio.
