The Astros have placed outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez on the 10-day injured list due to right hand inflammation, retroactive to May 3, recalling catcher César Salazar as his replacement. Alvarez has struggled with hand issues in the past and is experiencing a significant drop in performance this season, posting a .210/.306/.340 line over 121 plate appearances. Despite his absence, the team may utilize the designated hitter spot to increase plate appearances for other catchers, including Victor Caratini and Yainer Diaz.
