Having done the preview, and since I’ll also be doing the recap tonight, I don’t feel particularly obliged to go into much further detail here. 🙂 Obviously, it’s important for the team to stay within striking distance of the Padres, who are up at the other end of California this weekend, facing the Giants in San Francisco. Elsewhere, the Cubs already won, and the Phillies are currently in a rain delay, before the start of what could be a tough series for them against the Brewers on the road. We’ll be keeping an eye on both those contests over the course of the evening.

But the D-backs need to take care of their business too: getting the offense back on track is key. Over the last 17 games, Arizona has averaged barely 3 runs (55 total), with an OPS of .626 across 622 PA. While they have gone 10-7 in that stretch (despite being outscored by eight runs, 55-63), the hitters need to do better. But here’s a fact for you, despite what all the memes in the GDT might have you thinking, Arizona has actually left a below average number of runners on base this year, and 111 fewer than the Cubs to date.
