Drake Batherson’s contract situation with the Ottawa Senators may become clearer soon as he and GM Steve Staios attend a charity tournament. Batherson, in the final year of a six-year deal, desires to remain with the team but faces a looming Sept. 15 deadline that limits contract lengths to seven years under the new CBA. Reports suggest he could command $10-$11MM annually if he becomes a free agent, potentially making him the highest-paid player on the team. Negotiations are complicated, but the Senators will have significant cap space in 2027-28.
