Rays Receive City Funding for $2.3B Stadium

The Tampa Bay Rays received county approval for a $796 million financing plan to build a new 31,000-seat stadium, part of a $2.3 billion mixed-use entertainment district, after the Tampa City Council approved $80 million for the project. The new stadium, expected to open in 2029, will replace Tropicana Field, where the Rays have played since 1998. Team CEO Ken Babby expressed excitement about the partnership securing the Rays’ long-term future in Tampa Bay. The Rays have committed at least $1.3 billion toward the project, with additional funds from federal disaster recovery.
