The Golden State Warriors will honor late coach Don Nelson by wearing a “NELLIE” patch on their uniforms during the 2026-27 season, following his death on August 9. Nelson, who coached the team from 1988-1995 and 2006-2010, achieved 422 victories and led the Warriors to six playoff appearances. He is also known for the historic 2007 upset over the Mavericks and for recommending the selection of Steph Curry in the 2009 NBA Draft, which set the stage for the franchise’s future success. Nelson is recognized as one of the all-time winningest coaches in NBA history.
