The New Orleans Saints have signed two-time All-Pro kicker Daniel Carlson to challenge Charlie Smyth for the starting kicker position. Smyth, a former Gaelic footballer, had a solid previous season but has struggled in pre-season, missing his only field goal attempt. Carlson, drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2018 and later with the Raiders, had notable success in 2021 and 2022 but had a lower success rate last year. The Saints will face the Dallas Cowboys in their final pre-season game before the regular season opener against the Detroit Lions on September 13.
