Colt Emerson, a 20-year-old shortstop for the Seattle Mariners, has signed a groundbreaking 8-year, $95 million contract, the largest for a player under team control yet to play in the majors. Selected 22nd overall in the 2023 MLB Draft, Emerson has shown promise with a .285/.383/.458 slash line in 2025, playing primarily in high-A. He is currently at AAA Tacoma and is expected to soon take over the shortstop position from Leo Rivas. Recent contract extensions in MLB include significant deals for Pete Crow-Armstrong and Nico Hoerner with the Cubs.
