MEXICO CITY (AP) — Félix Aguirre, director of the Azteca Stadium, is anxious as the venue prepares to reopen after renovations for the 2026 World Cup. The stadium, which has a rich history, will host a friendly match between Mexico and Portugal as a critical test before the World Cup opener on June 11. Renovations have increased capacity to 87,500 and improved facilities while maintaining the stadium’s historic essence. Aguirre aims to complete the project by handing over the stadium to FIFA a month before the opener.
