Former top MLB prospect Jarred Kelenic, now with the Chicago White Sox, will not be included in the Opening Day roster after a disappointing Spring Training performance, batting .179 with 12 strikeouts in 39 at-bats. Kelenic, who was selected sixth overall by the Mets in the 2018 MLB Draft, has struggled since his debut in 2021, posting a .211 average over 407 games. Last year with the Braves, he hit just .167 and faced criticism from teammate Ronald Acuña Jr. for his lack of hustle.
