Pregame notes

The Washington Wizards are on a 14-game losing streak and now they have to face the top team in the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both teams come into this game a little banged up. With the Wizards so thin, you can expect them to continue to rely on their young developing role players like Will Riley and Jamir Watkins. With the season well in hand of being a non-playoff season, the Wizards can continue to focus on the development of their youngsters.

For the Thunder, nothing is quite a given. Only being up by three (3) games ahead of the San Antonio Spurs, losing is not really an option, especially against a team that has struggled like the Wizards. Having players like Williams and Hartenstein being in and out of the lineup has made the road to defending their NBA Championship a little more bumpier.

For this game, it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of energy the Wizards come out with. The champions tend to get everybody’s best shot and this is likely no different. For the Thunder, it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of urgency they come out with. There are only 12 games left in the season, but the only thing they have clinched is a playoff spot, so plenty more for them to fight for. Let’s see if the Thunder come out with that mindset. The first couple of minutes will be telling on how these teams view this one.
