The Kansas City Royals have optioned right-handers Ryan Bergert and Mason Black to Triple-A Omaha, as they will serve as rotation depth behind the team’s healthy starting five: Cole Ragans, Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, Kris Bubic, and Noah Cameron. Bailey Falter, who is out of options and cannot be sent to the minors, may be considered for a sixth starter role or long relief, but could also be traded. Falter, who has a career 4.58 ERA, is set to earn $3.6MM this year, which may limit his trade value. With free agents and potential waiver options available, other teams may seek alternatives for pitching depth.
