Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin reached the 25-goal milestone for the 20th time in his career, tying Gordie Howe’s NHL record. In his 21 seasons, he only fell short once, scoring 24 goals during the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season. Ovechkin also became the sixth player to score at least 25 goals at age 40 or older and is the record holder for most seasons with 30 (19) and 40 (14) goals. His goal against the Senators marked the 999th of his career, closing in on Wayne Gretzky’s all-time total of 1,016.
