Observations from Mets spring training on Saturday:
Pache of cake
Cristian Pache showcased his defensive skills with a running catch in left-center, denying Jake Meyers a hit. Mark Vientos continues to struggle, going hitless and sitting at 1-for-21 in Grapefruit League games, though manager Carlos Mendoza noted his hard-hit balls as a positive sign. Last year’s first-round pick, Mitch Voit, recorded his first Grapefruit League hit while filling in for injured Jackson Cluff. The Mets will face Toronto on Sunday, with Zach Thornton starting at 1:10 p.m.
