The San Diego Padres have signed outfielder Nick Castellanos to a one-year deal at the MLB minimum of $780K after the Philadelphia Phillies released him. The Phillies will cover the bulk of Castellanos’ $20 million salary for the 2026 season. The 33-year-old, who has primarily played in the outfield, is expected to transition to first base with the Padres. Castellanos’ tenure in Philadelphia ended controversially after a dugout confrontation with manager Rob Thomson, which he later addressed and apologized for.
