The NBA fined the Utah Jazz $500,000 and the Indiana Pacers $100,000 for violating the league’s player participation policy by sitting healthy players in recent games. The Jazz’s fine was due to resting Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. in games against the Magic and Heat, while the Pacers’ fine stemmed from a game against the Jazz where Pascal Siakam and two other starters could have played. NBA commissioner Adam Silver emphasized that such actions undermine competition integrity and warned of further penalties for similar conduct. The fines were announced just before the All-Star break.
