Elroy Face, a pioneering late-inning reliever and member of the Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame, passed away at 97. Known as “The Baron of the Bullpen,” Face had a significant impact on modern relief pitching and was a critical part of the Pirates’ 1960 World Series championship team. Over 15 seasons with Pittsburgh, he recorded 188 saves and earned three consecutive All-Star selections from 1959-61. Face was recently honored with his Hall of Fame induction in 2023.
