Utah’s recent tanking strategy, featuring star players Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. playing limited minutes, led to a $500,000 fine from the NBA for “conduct detrimental to the league.” The Indiana Pacers were also fined $100,000 for violating the Player Participation Policy. With many teams tanking for a better draft position, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated the league would implement measures to address this issue. While the Jazz and Pacers are penalized, other teams continue to exploit loopholes in the system.
