Carlos Santana, the 39-year-old infielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks, has been cleared to participate in the 2026 World Baseball Classic despite being denied insurance coverage due to his age. Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen approved Santana’s participation with the Dominican Republic team, which includes stars Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo. This insurance issue has affected other players as well, such as Mets’ Francisco Lindor and Astros’ Jose Altuve, who also lack coverage for the tournament. Santana recently signed a one-year, $2 million contract and is preparing for his 17th MLB season.
