Mets right-hander Jonah Tong will not pitch for Team Canada in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, as reported by Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. The 22-year-old, who made his MLB debut last season and excelled in the minors with a 1.43 ERA and 179 strikeouts, will report to spring training on Feb. 11. While he has a chance to secure a spot in the Mets’ rotation, starting the season in Triple-A is likely due to the team’s depth. The WBC begins on March 4, with several Mets players participating for various national teams.
