The Mariners have acquired catcher José Pereda to enhance their depth, following their recent addition of pitcher Cooper Criswell. Pereda, who made his MLB debut in 2024 with the Marlins, has struggled offensively but displayed solid defensive skills, including a sub-two second pop time. He brings valuable minor league options and is expected to serve as the starting catcher for Tacoma. To accommodate Pereda, Seattle designated righty Jackson Kowar for assignment after his return from Tommy John surgery.
