Ahead of their game against the Sabres, the Maple Leafs placed defenseman Dakota Mermis on waivers after an extended conditioning loan in the AHL, necessitated by his time on long-term injured reserve. Mermis, who joined the Leafs in 2024 and signed a two-year extension last summer, has been placed on waivers multiple times, previously losing him to Utah in December 2024 before reclaiming him. With Troy Stecher and Henry Thrun now on the roster, Mermis’s NHL services are no longer required, allowing him to gain more AHL experience. In 11 NHL games this season, he recorded one goal and a -3 rating while averaging 13:02 of ice time.
