The Rockies have signed pitcher Michael Lorenzen to a one-year, $8MM contract, with a $9MM club option for 2027, marking Colorado’s first MLB signing of the offseason under new baseball operations head Paul DePodesta. Lorenzen, a 34-year-old righty, offers the Rockies a guaranteed rotation spot and has a 4.10 ERA over the past four seasons, having spent the last year and a half with the Royals. With a historically poor rotation, Colorado aims to secure more experienced pitchers, and Lorenzen could be flipped for prospects mid-season if he performs well. The deal is notable as it’s the Rockies’ first free agent starter signing over $5MM since 2015, reflecting their rebuilding efforts.
