The Cincinnati Reds have signed reliever Yunior Marte to a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training, offering a $1.05MM base salary if he makes the team. After a season in Japan with the Chunichi Dragons, where he posted a 1.95 ERA over 32 1/3 innings, Marte returns to the MLB, having previously played for the Giants and Phillies. At 30, he brings a fastball reaching 96-98 MPH, albeit with a career 5.64 ERA and a 20.1% strikeout rate. The Reds, having a strong late-inning group, are looking to fill middle-inning roles as they lack minor league depth.
