The Miami Marlins traded minor league right-hander Adriano Marrero to acquire outfielder Esteury Ruiz from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ruiz, who led the American League with 67 stolen bases in 2023, has a career batting average of .241 but is known for his speed and defensive skills. After a limited stint with the Dodgers, where he batted .190, Ruiz is expected to fill the role of backup outfielder for the Marlins following Dane Myers’ trade to Cincinnati. To accommodate Ruiz, the Marlins designated infielder Eric Wagaman for assignment.
