Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle will step down as president of the National Basketball Coaches Association at the end of December, marking his 20th year in the role. He will be succeeded by Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who Carlisle praised for his leadership and success in turning teams around. Bickerstaff, hired as Pistons head coach in July 2024, is recognized as a trusted friend and capable leader. Carlisle is also advocating for Bickerstaff’s father, Bernie, to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
