Jorge Polanco, primarily a shortstop and second baseman, is set to become the Mets’ primary first baseman after signing a two-year, $40 million contract, filling the role left by Pete Alonso. Polanco, who has limited experience at first base, is eager to adapt and has been preparing for the position with the Mariners’ coaching staff. Last season, he hit .265 with 26 homers and 78 RBIs, showcasing his versatility. He believes his athleticism will aid his transition to first base, despite the challenges of the position.
