The Texas Rangers have signed catcher José Herrera to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. Herrera, who turns 29 in February, spent over a decade with the Diamondbacks, where he primarily served as a depth catcher and had 562 plate appearances with a .200 batting average. After exhausting his options with Arizona, he qualified for free agency and now provides the Rangers with experienced depth behind the plate, complementing new additions Danny Jansen and Kyle Higashioka.
